ALPS - Alpine Museum of Switzerland
Mountains as a generation-connecting theme

The ALPS - Alpine Museum of Switzerland adopts a participatory, approachable, and dialogical educational approach. The guiding principle «We are the ALPS» places people and their realities at the absolute center.

Visitors as Experts: The museum does not see its audience as mere consumers, but as experts with their own experiential knowledge (e.g., on climate change, tourism, or political debates). A change in perspective instead of instruction: In the exhibitions, those affected speak for themselves instead of being spoken about. For example, in the «Greenland» exhibition, indigenous people speak for themselves, unfiltered, in over 70 film interviews.

Active Co-creation: In the «Lost and Found for Memories,» visitors bring their own objects (currently: souvenirs), tell their stories in a video booth, and then, as part of a jury, decide what will be included in the official museum collection.

Intergenerational: The content (such as historical amateur films about the automotive dawn) is staged to deliberately provoke dialogue between generations, from baby boomers to climate strikers.

Experience-oriented and approachable: In addition to playful elements for children (e.g., UV flashlight tracks), the museum breaks down classic boundaries through unconventional everyday workshops (e.g., sausage making), events like the Alpine flea market, and mobile exhibitions that travel directly to the public.
