History and background
30 years of the Swiss Museum Pass - opening doors to culture
Since 1996, the Swiss Museum Pass has been accompanying those interested in culture throughout Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. What began as an innovative idea - an annual pass that facilitates access to museums - has developed over three decades into a central instrument of the Swiss museum landscape.
The network grew quickly and continuously from the initial 160 participating museums. After just a few years, the pass was able to cover over 200 locations, and with the entry of new partners and strategic collaborations, such as with Raiffeisen or Swiss Post, the offer was constantly expanding. With each passing year, the pass gained in popularity and became a symbol of cultural participation, education and shared discovery.
Today, the Swiss Museum Pass entitles holders to free admission to over 500 museums, from well-known art and cultural collections to small specialist museums. 30 years after its launch, the pass has finally established itself as a mainstay of Swiss culture - a symbol of curiosity, the joy of discovery and the pleasure of shared museum experiences.
