The museum sees itself as a place for joint creation, exploration, and discussion for all generations. Doing things together as a catalyst for dialogue: In the special exhibition «Fix it!», retired professionals act as mentors, repairing broken items together with grandparents, grandchildren, and school classes. The hands-on process breaks down barriers and encourages the exchange of biographical mishaps and historical everyday stories.</p> <p>Playful research and discovery: In the permanent exhibition «Wild Baselbiet,» biodiversity becomes tangible in the in-house research laboratory. Visitors can build a DNA double helix together or follow animal sounds in a dark room. Children are also playfully guided through the topics by the «Curiosity Bunny.».</p> <p>Living history through immersion: Industrialization («silk ribbon») becomes a tangible experience through chattering, historic looms. Theatrical elements such as guided tours (e.g., from the perspective of a historical passementerie maker or a garden spider) translate complex historical and biological themes into emotional, captivating stories for young and old. Inclusion, participation, and feel-good factor: The Museum.BL breaks down inhibitions through social openness, financial accessibility, and specialized, inclusive programs: Imagination instead of pressure to recall for those with dementia: With the «Time Slips» format, the museum offers a safe space for people with dementia and their loved ones. Together, imaginative stories are created based on historical photographs and artworks. The subsequent gathering in the museum café («Käfelet») strengthens social participation.</p> <p>Sensory and Tactile Accessibility: For people with and without visual impairments, there are specialized tours of the silk ribbon exhibition, which are consistently focused on tactile and auditory experiences.</p> <p>Low-threshold participation and culture for everyone: Many offers – from evening museum bars for thematic talks to craft holiday workshops (Kintsugi, 3D printing, fire drilling) to rentable themed kits – are completely free. Additionally, admission is free for children up to 12 years old and once a month on Sundays for everyone.</p>
